Organized Chaos All Around

Work has been crazy the last couple of months. So much so that I haven't been able to post about all the things that have happened in August, September and October so far. Travels, Go-Lives, Shows...you name it!

It started in August, shortly after my last post. I flew to Denver to spend time with my brother and sister in law. It was a great trip full of activities - like the Light Park, Denver Botanical Gardens, site-seeing around town, seeing cousins, and experiments with my sister in law's new Cricut machine!

A couple of weeks later (the week of Labor Day), I flew to Orlando to attend the National Routing Team's Supervisor Summit and team building event. An all day meeting to go over strategic planning for the department's future, as well as getting to know each other better were on tap. Not to mention doing an escape room, and some good meals!

A week after that, Jeff and I packed up the car and headed to Oklahoma for our anniversary. We drove to the Choctaw Casino and Resort in Durant, OK to spend a few days relaxing and playing slot machines! The resort has a movie theater and bowling alley, as well as several restaurants and a buffet in house. It was a really nice drive, and was only about 6 hours from our house to the casino!

In between trips, I got started working on the Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule, completing everything for it in mid October. I was super busy trying to get the schedule written, this year in two different formats. In mid September, one of our projects had a go-live, where meat and produce were no longer housed in the mainframe but instead housing in a cloud based program. Grocery and Frozen will go live with this same cloud based program in 2024. It was a really busy, chaotic, interesting time trying to handle the trips, holiday schedules, and go-lives!

The band I play in had its first concert on October 8th, so we had to fit that chaos in with everything else going on! I had made plans a while back to meet a good friend on Friday, October 13th to see Craig Ferguson perform live.  It was a much needed evening out from the holiday schedule planning!

I've now finished the Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule, and have started working on the Christmas and New Years Holiday Schedule. While working on all of this as well, that good friend and I have planned and paid for a trip to Las Vegas (next week!!) and the National Routing Team has gone through changes on who all reports to who...a result of our Summit back in September. I now report to a different manager than I did before, so getting in the groove with a new person over the team has been a challenge too (not bad, mind you - I think this will work out just fine!).

Still lots to do, but I'm looking forward to the trip to Las Vegas next week with my friend. It'll be a great getaway for a few days!

Get-aways and Holiday Madness...When Will It End?

Jeff and I really do enjoy getting away for the weekend. When I say weekend, I mean our days off. We don't have the typical weekends off...
